Alvaro Sicilia-Camacho is Researcher at the Health Research Centre and Professor at the Department of Education at Almería University, Spain. He completed his PhD at the University of Granada (Spain) in 1997 and has developed an extensive academic career combining research, teaching, and university leadership.

Professor Sicilia-Camacho has led and collaborated on numerous competitive research projects at national and regional levels and has supervised several doctoral theses. He has held academic management roles within his university and has undertaken extended research stays abroad, particularly in the United Kingdom, fostering strong international collaborations. He has published more than 150 peer-reviewed articles, alongside numerous books and book chapters. His research focuses on sociocultural influences on body ideals, exercise addiction, self-determination theory, and the psycho-social factors underpinning health-related behaviours in adolescents and young adults. 

During their IAS Fellowship, Professor Sicilia-Camacho will be collaborating with Dr Hannah White from the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences.
