Laura Baldwin represented Team GB at the Athens 2004 Olympics in the sport of sailing. At her peak she was world ranked #2. Laura coached at two Olympic Games for the Australians and Hungarians. In 2019 everything changed when the school strikers brought the climate crisis to her attention. Motivated by motherhood and being a nature lover, Laura became an activist and spokesperson for Extinction Rebellion, she established a community allotment, planted thousands of trees and decarbonised her home and life.

Laura was elected to the Green Party of England and Wales Executive Campaigns Committee three times before stepping back from politics to advocate for Citizen’s Assemblies. For the past three years Laura has been focused on educating and supporting past and present sports people to speak and act for climate and nature through a global group called Champions for Earth. As well as hosting sport sustainability workshops and talks, aiming to inspire as many people as possible to dream of the future we need and to act in ways to make it happen, fast.

During their Biddle Family Scholarship, Laura is collaborating with Dr Mark Doidge from the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences.
