Creating a Research Culture in Young Institutions: Strategies for Growth, Collaboration, and...

IAS Residential Fellow Dr Maali D. Alshammari delivers a seminar on their research, fully titled "Creating a Research Culture in Young Institutions: Strategies for Growth, Collaboration, and Innovation" -

In emerging academic environments, establishing a vibrant research culture is both a challenge and an opportunity. In this seminar, Dr. Maali D. Alshammari, a medicinal chemist, academic leader, and Director of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center at the University of Hail, explores practical strategies to foster research excellence, interdisciplinary collaboration, and innovation within young institutions.

Drawing from her international academic journey and leadership roles in Saudi Arabia and the United States, Dr. Alshammari shares insights on building effective research infrastructure, mentoring early-career faculty and students, and aligning institutional goals with national and global research priorities. Special attention is given to cultivating innovative ecosystems that connect academia with industry, support startups, and translate scientific findings into real-world solutions.

This session emphasizes the critical role of leadership, strategic planning, and a supportive institutional culture in nurturing research talent and driving scientific advancement. Attendees will gain actionable tools to stimulate collaboration, promote innovation-driven research, and create sustainable pathways for academic growth—especially in developing or rapidly growing academic settings.

Arrivals from 11:45 am for a 12:00 noon start. For those joining in-person, lunch will be served after the seminar from 1:00pm.

This event is hybrid format, please use the required booking button at the bottom of the page to choose either in-person or online attendance.
(Please note that in-person spaces are limited and booking is required, so we can manage numbers for catering and also the space in the seminar room)

If you are not able to attend a seminar live, please do still register as we will email everyone who registered to let them know once the recordings are made available.
