Loughborough crowned Sports University of the Year for the fourth time

Loughborough University has been crowned Sports University of the Year by The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2025 – and remains tenth out of 134 universities in its national league table.

This is the fourth time Loughborough has been awarded the prestigious title, coming after an epic summer of sport where University linked athletes brought home 35 medals from the Paris Games.

Underpinning Loughborough’s athlete successes is the world-leading sports-related research that takes place across the University. The School of Sport, Exercise and Health SciencesSports Technology Institute and Institute for Sport Business are all renowned for the fundamental and applied research they undertake in this field.

The University has also been named the best in the world for sports-related subjects for eight years running by the global QS higher education league table – testament to its outstanding regard among the world’s academic community.

Speaking about Loughborough’s success Professor Nick Jennings, Vice-Chancellor of Loughborough University, said: “Sport is at the very heart of Loughborough, from our incredible facilities and world-leading research to our performance sport specialists and expert coaches.

“We are always proud of what our athletes achieve, but an Olympic and Paralympic year shines an even brighter spotlight on their successes. We also celebrate the many coaches, practitioners, and support staff from across the University who help them achieve their goals.

“To remain a top ten university in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2025 is another remarkable achievement. Again, testament to the incredible work of colleagues across the University who are dedicated to ensuring our students get the very best out of their time at Loughborough.”

Loughborough is currently ranked 6th in the Complete University Guide 2025 and tenth in the Guardian University Guide 2025. The full Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2025 can be viewed here.
