At Loughborough Business School, we strongly believe that undertaking a placement year or year abroad is a transformative step in your education. This additional year not only prepares you to become an industry-ready graduate, but also equips you with the skills and practical experience to make progress with purpose towards your future career.
With 80% of our students across our six undergraduate business courses choosing to enhance their learning through a placement, study abroad, or entrepreneurial venture, the benefits speak for themselves: 50% receive a job offer from their placement company, demonstrating the value and momentum this year can bring to your professional journey.
Building this extra year into your course is a fantastic way to build your confidence and skills, solidify your career plans, and help you stand out with employers.
It’s up to you exactly how you spend your third year. You can do any of the following:
Placement and study abroad
six months on placement and six months studying abroad
You don’t have to decide anything until year two and there’s lots of help from our dedicated placement and study abroad offices in the Business School.
Our flexible options are ideal for athletes
Having a flexible third year is ideal for elite athletes and seriously committed sportspeople. There are lots of opportunities available, and we will work with you to find your best option.
For instance, we can help you find a work placement in the Loughborough area so you could continue to use campus sporting facilities. Or you could take our Year in Enterprise option to get on-campus support for developing and promoting your own business, perhaps related to your sport.
Another option exclusively available to elite athletes (as approved by the Sports Development Centre) is to not add in an extra year, and move directly into your final year.
