The East Midlands Branch of the Institute of Physics are trialling the ‘I am a physicist’ Girlguiding badge and resource in Nottinghamshire. It is officially launched today (11th February) and is open to all Girlguiding sections with age appropriate activities for Rainbows (age 5) through to Rangers (age 18).

The badge is the brainchild of Deborah Phelps, a Loughborough Physics graduate currently working at Rolls Royce and acting as an elected member of the IoP Council. With the East Midlands Committee and the IoP, she has been working to develop the activities and resources for this initiative.

The challenge is divided into four sections:

Section 1: Experience
Section 2: Create
Section 3: Investigate
Section 4: Meet, visit, community

The pilot will run until the end of the year during which time workshops will be run to support leaders, such as at County Day on 23rd March, or Science in the Park on 9th March.
