Why did you choose Loughborough University?

Loughborough had a very welcoming community amongst the Computer Science department and the University so before I had applied, I already felt welcome. The sporting opportunities at every level was also very appealing along with my specific course itself. Loughborough also showcased some of the highest rankings, student satisfaction levels and post graduate employment opportunities for my degree which naturally was very appealing.

What made you choose to study Computer Science and Mathematics?

I always loved Computer Science and Maths when I was in high school and primary school, and I also excelled in them both. I wasn’t sure at the time what I wanted to do as a career and figured that taking the joint honours would allow me to explore different potential pathways so that I could work out what to do for my future whilst also enjoying my higher education.

Did you come on an open day? If so, how did that influence your decision to study at Loughborough?

I came on an open day and really enjoyed my experience and knew at the end of the day that Loughborough was where I wanted to study. The speaker for the talk about my course that I attended was really passionate for both the degree and the University and really gave me an insight into what life at Loughborough was all about.

What do you enjoy most about being a Loughborough student?

The sporting opportunities are so vast and by far my favourite part of the University. Many people assume there are only chances to play at the highest level, but through social sport, inter mural sport and my personal favourite, the MyLifestyle program, there are so many opportunities and different sports to play regularly or just try out no matter your ability or skill level, so naturally anyone can come along and have a good time.

What do you enjoy most about your course?

I really enjoy the programming side as it has always been something I have enjoyed doing in my own time. I also really like the problem solving on both sides of the course as it’s very satisfying and rewarding working to solve a problem and then reaching that goal.

What advice would you give to someone considering studying joint honours at Loughborough?

Make sure you enjoy both sides of the course as until third year it is a 50/50 split so if you don’t really like one side then choose the single degree. Be confident and try out new sports even if you think it isn’t your thing because there is something for everyone when it comes to sport.

What do you think about the facilities at Loughborough?

I was shocked by how fantastic the facilities were when I first saw them as they exceeded my expectations. There are so many different centres for sporting opportunities and many modern lecture halls that are comfortable and enjoyable to work in. The whole atmosphere allows an enjoyable social and studying environment.

What are your plans for the future?

I would like to go on a placement year to enhance my skills in the industry and narrow down the path I want to go down for my career. I hope to either go into some form of software development or computer systems once I graduate.
