Personal Titles Sub-Committee

Terms of Reference

  1. To meet twice per year or more frequently, if required. Successful promotions will take effect from the first day of the following month and will be reported to Senate and Council via the Human Resources Committee (HRC).
  2. To consider proposals for the award of Personal Chairs. If the sub-committee judges that a candidate has met the criteria for the award of a Personal Chair, to agree an appropriate set of external referees to whom the application will be sent for comment.
  3. To consider proposals for the award of Readerships, If the sub-committee judges that a candidate has met the criteria for the award of a Readership, to agree an appropriate set of external referees to whom the application will be sent for comment.
  4. To review comments made by external referees and to award personal titles as appropriate.
  5. To establish and review the criteria for promotion to Reader and Professor, and to ensure that they are in line with the University Strategy.
  6. To report all titles awarded to the Human Resources Committee.
