The sessions are set to inspire students in small groups, giving them the chance to engage, ask questions and learn from alumni experts.
Rob became a Partner at PwC at age 33. He studied International Business at Loughborough.
Topics discussed with students during the session ranged from work-life balance and making the most of a placement year, to managing crises and making difficult decisions.
The sessions are designed to be interactive and welcome students from a range of degree courses. Those who attended were from disciplines such as economics, engineering, and art.
Students engaged in the session enjoyed the opportunity to hear from Rob. One student, Emily, said:
“I learnt the power of self-disclosure. It was something I have previously been shy to talk about, but hearing Rob talk so openly and passionately opened my eyes to the benefit it has. Being open helps develop the 'people skills' and makes you appear more human, and in a world of technology we need and crave these human relationships.
“Prioritising my own needs also links in with this, and being honest when stepping back from an opportunity or meeting develops a trust and reliability to the customer.”
Andrea added:
“The session was extremely insightful. We touched upon the topics of career development, ambition, resilience and vulnerability. Rob helped us to understand the deeper fundamentals of what depicts a successful career and the type of mindset that contributes to that.”
Commenting after the event, Rob said:
“It was great to participate in the Lunch with a Leader initiative, and connect with students. The students were really engaged and had great questions and thoughts. It was a thoroughly enjoyable session and I would encourage others to get involved."
Lunch with a Leader is a new series that invites students from across the Student Success Academy to sit down with some of Loughborough alumni to hear about their journey to success and an opportunity to network. This is the second of a pilot series, with plans to roll out monthly next academic year.
Thank you, Rob.
