A prolific writer, Professor Cohen published more than 18 books. He was the co-author of a seminal text, Research Methods in Education, a long-running bestseller covering the range of methods employed in educational research, and A Guide to Teaching Practice, which continues to be a major text for all students training to be teachers. He was awarded a D.Litt. for published work from Loughborough University in 1994.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce, his two children, David and Sharon, and six grandchildren. His wife, daughter, son-in-law and grandson are also Loughborough alumni.
