Dr Barrie Hawkins

Died 21 October 2021

Senior Lecturer in English & Drama. 1970 until 1990.

Barrie started teaching in Loughborough College of Education. He carried on during the university years directing many student projects as well as large scale productions of major plays which became a terrific showcase for the university. He took part in a years  exchange with an American university as well as touring student’s work in Southern Germany and the Midlands.He also wrote plays for students to perform, one of which was taken to the Edinburgh Festival.

After retirement he gained a doctorate from Warwick University which enabled him to Lecture in Italy, Germany & Norway.

Barrie died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on October 21st.

He had been suffering for some time from Vascular Dementia.

He leaves a daughter, Kate and a son Sam and 5 grandsons.
