Dave Egerton

19 October 1961 – 8 February 2021

David was born in Pinner Middlesex in 1961 and in 1964 his family moved to the New Forest to live, where at the age of 13 he attended Bishop Wordsworth School in Salisbury and his passion for the game of Rugby came to the fore.

David then went on to attend Loughborough where he studied Ergonomics between 1981 and 1984. Following the completion of his degree David moved to live in Bristol.

He played rugby for the University, English Universities and England Students.  He made over 160 appearances for Bath Rugby and played for the England national side seven times, as well as the Barbarians and British and Irish Lions.

David initially worked in research at British Aerospace but then went onto have a successful career in the Financial Industry, during which time he also successfully coached Bridgewater and had a spell at Bristol, before re-locating with his family to live in Hong Kong, where he became a coach at the Hong Kong Football Club.

On his return to live in the UK, David became a regular fixture with BBC Commentary, covering the Bath games.

David is survived by his wife Amanda and his children William and Olivia.

The world of rugby was greatly saddened at Dave’s passing, with many stars playing tribute.

Former England player, Brian Moore said: “Dave Egerton was an intelligent, amusing guy and a very good player.”

Neil Back, part of England’s World Cup winning side of 2003 said: “… a true gentleman off the pitch and a very talented player on it, taken from us too soon.”
