Phil Goulding

"Sadly Phil passed away peacefully at his home on May 17^th, 2021 from prostate cancer. He leaves behind his beloved wife Elaine and two children, Laurie and Gianna.

Phil was born in 1952 in Eastcote, Pinner, Middlesex and was educated at St. Nicholas Grammar School before attending Loughborough College of Education in 1970. Phil was a top all-round sportsman and represented the College in a variety of Sports. His passion for Pole Vaulting led him to be Nationally Ranked and his interest in Rugby and Gymnastics also flourished whilst at the College.

After graduating from Loughborough with a Bachelor of Education, Phil married Elaine Cowlishaw (Loughborough College of Education 1970-73) and lived together in West London for nine years where their children were born. In 1987 they moved to their dream house near Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire, where they lived up until Phil’s passing.

Phil had a long, distinguished career in Education with time spent in the ILEA as a Primary Teacher and Headteacher, before serving as a School Standards Inspector and Headteacher in Leicestershire. After retiring in 2013, he volunteered with several local organisations, including as a Chair of Trustees for a primary academy and a community support driver. He was also a coach at Burton Athletics Club, and was inducted into to its Hall of Fame in 2019.

Phil had many friends, none more so than his life long College friends like Michael Cook (his Best Man), Dave Briggs, Graham Cracknell, Roly Brookman, Chris Pinch and all of the P1B PE Group of 1970. We all send our condolences to Elaine and the family.

One of Phil’s wishes was to encourage all men to get their prostate checked regularly, since doing this earlier could have extended - or even saved - his life. You can find more information at prostatecanceruk.org."
