David Roberton

Really, the most significant event in David’s time at Loughborough was meeting his future wife Sue at a Student Union dance. Her father was none other than Professor B Downs in the Mechanical Engineering department at the university, so David became a model student during his next two years at Loughborough!

David worked for Roche initially and was sent to work in South Africa where he spent several years building up their vitamin business and also teaching the factory workers to play soccer!

A few years after returning to UK, David joined with two colleagues and they set up their own vitamin business which was highly successful.

David’s first love was his wife and family of three sons but he was also a devoted soccer fan. Having grown up in High Wycombe he was drawn to help at Wycombe Wanderers football club as they developed and grew into a successful Football League side. After the sad early loss of Sue he threw himself wholeheartedly into working for the club where he was a highly respected and admired Director of the Wycombe Wanderers Founders and Wycombe Wanderers Trusts.

In recent years, David also took to cycling and raised much money for charities through sponsored rides. He also took to traveling the world looking for unusual destinations.

In 2021 David developed cancer which was particularly malignant and he passed away much too soon on 17 December.

He was a man with great personal appeal with the ability to get along with anybody. A close colleague at Wycombe said that David was one of those people on which all communities rely who put in more than they take out.

He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.
