Richard Beith

19 September 1935 - 8 October 2019

Richard enjoyed life in Hazlerigg Hall and became the editor of the College of Technology Newspaper. After his Diploma in Chemistry he went to UCL and gained a Diploma in Chemical Engineering. His experience as editor was very useful when writing reports when working in the insulation industry.

He also played in the College band where he learnt how to work as a team which complemented the Grammar school view of leadership and independence.

His funeral was taken by a friend who said:

“Richard Beith was a man ahead of his time... a modern man if you will. He believed everyone is equal, everyone’s point of view is valid. He was an open-minded man with a lifelong love of learning, he completed a Masters degree in History when he was 70! Although Richard retired at the age of 58 he never really stopped working... all those hobbies and interests of his kept him very busy... writing books, publishing books, selling books, researching family history and travelling.”
