Michael Nicos Christodoulides

Michael was born in Cyprus in 1930. He came to Loughborough University in 1949 to study Civil Engineering. The following year he had to undergo a serious operation in the UK that was successful. He returned to Loughborough in 1951 to continue his studies in the Department of Engineering.

After three years he completed his course and was awarded with a First Class Honours Diploma. In June 1983 the Senate of Loughborough University had conferred to him the BSc Degree in Civil Engineering.

Thereafter, from 1958 until 1959 he attended successfully a postgraduate course at the University of Leeds where he was awarded with the Diploma in Concrete Technology, and from October 1967 until September 1968 he completed a postgraduate course at the Technological University of Delft (in Netherlands) that was organised by the Netherlands Universities Foundation for International Co-operation Den Haag and sponsored by UNESCO. He was awarded with the postgraduate Diploma in Hydraulic Engineering. In 1983, he became Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers.

After graduating from Loughborough University in 1954, he was offered a job in a construction company in Cyprus and in 1956 he took up a post as civil engineer with the Government of Cyprus where he worked until retiring in 1990 as the Director General of the Public Works. During his employment period he had attended successfully various short courses abroad and also international congresses, conferences and seminars.

He felt certain that the time he had spent at Loughborough University was valuable and very important and had laid the foundation for his future career.

Michael sadly passed away on 6 January 2024. He is deeply missed by his wife Xenia, his son Nicos and daughter Christina, and grandchildren Andreas and Xenia.
