The Psychology course at Loughborough offers a thorough grounding in the fundamentals of psychological science, allowing graduates to build their careers on a British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited qualification. 

A full range of modules offer core psychological knowledge and skills, allowing you to tailor your degree to your interests and aspirations. The course is taught within the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences.

The course offers 2 different courses of full-time study: a three-year course offering the award of BSc (Psychology); and a four-year course (with a placement year between years 2 and 3) offering the awards of BSc (Psychology) and a Diploma in Professional Studies.

This degree prepares you for a wide range of careers in commercial or healthcare settings, including roles in management and human resources, education, community and social work, financial services, and psychological research. It provides a foundation for postgraduate study or further professional training for careers in counselling or clinical, educational, occupational, forensic or health psychology.

Placements

Professional placements

Students taking the four-year course in Psychology spend their third year on placement in an approved occupation relevant to their degree. Satisfactory completion of the placement leads to the award of the Diploma in Professional Studies.

Although it is the student's responsibility to arrange the placement, considerable support is available.

Students have had placements in the UK and abroad, with schools, NHS Trusts, prisons, the Home Office, the Health and Safety Executive, and various consultancies and companies.

Transfer between the three and four year courses is normally possible.
