Andrew Shepherd, Loughborough Sport’s Lead Performance Nutritionist, will join up with ParalympicsGB ahead of this summer’s 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.

The secondment will see Shepherd employed as the Lead Nutritionist for ParalympicsGB, working as part of its Sports Science and Sports Medicine Team in the run-up to and during the Games.

Shepherd’s role will see him lead the provision of nutrition, working alongside ParalympicsGB’s operations team. This will include overseeing the logistics and organisation for nutrition delivery at the Preparation Camp in France in support of the ParalympicsGB’s vision of ‘creating the best possible environment to enable them to achieve their goals’.

The role also has a strong emphasis on collaboration, working with the Deputy Chef de Mission for Performance, Head of Prep Camp, Commercial Teams and Partners, as well as the individual sports to create a thriving environment for athletes and staff in the athlete village.

“I’m delighted to be appointed as Lead Nutritionist ahead of Paris 2024,” Andrew said.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to support athletes and staff at both prep camp and in the village to reach their sporting ambitions. It’s a privilege to work alongside a fantastic team, both in the Sports Science and Sports Medicine team but also the wider ParalympicsGB team for Paris 2024.”

Jonathon Riall, ParalympicsGB’s deputy Chef de Mission for Performance, added: “I am delighted to have Andy as a key leader within our Performance team, in the lead-up to and during the games in Paris.

“Andy’s expertise in his area is second to none, and I am confident he will make a significant difference to the experience our athletes and staff have this summer.”

A number of colleagues from Loughborough Sport are due to work at the Paralympic Games in Paris across areas including events and operations.
