Loughborough’s involvement at the Cycling World Championships started in perfect fashion as current student Sophie Capewell set a new British record in the women's team sprint.

Competing alongside fellow riders Emma Finucane and Lauren Bell, Capewell helped the team qualify fastest in a new record time of 46.072.

Held in Glasgow and across Scotland between the 3 – 13 August 2023, the World Championships will see the best cyclists compete in a thrilling multi-discipline competition.

Other Loughborough students set to make their mark for Team GB include Joe Truman (Track Team), Hannah Moore (Track Team (Para)), and Lightning Cycling’s Morgan Newberry, (Racing Track, Time Trial, Road Race (Para).

Newberry, a Physiology and Nutrition of Sport and Exercise student, has already set a new personal best in the individual pursuit qualifying and will now race for a bronze medal on Saturday.

Emily Kay, another Lightning starlet, has been selected for Ireland and will compete in its Track Team.

Alumni duo Millie Cass (Team GB - Track Team) and Sam Ruddock (Team GB - Track Team) complete a strong Loughborough contingent vying for podium places.
