Drowning Prevention Week 2023 Campaign

Swim Lessons 17 and 18 June

Figures indicate that around 25 per cent of primary pupils leave school unable to swim, and experts fear that as a result of the pandemic many young people lacking the ability to swim or self-rescue.

Loughborough Sport is supporting RLSS UK’s national Drowning Prevention Week campaign.

During this week we are asking children in all levels including Adult and Child to wear clothes during the lesson.

We request that the below swim stages wear the following clothes over their swimming costumes.

  • Adult and Child to Stage 2 - T-shirt
  • Stage 3 and above - T-shirt and lightweight bottoms

We are proud to play our part in ensuring our families have a safe summer. We recognise how vitally important it is for children to know how to stay safe near water, and urge our parents to access RLSS UK’s free water safety resources on the Charity’s website.

Drowning is preventable, yet over 300 lives are lost to drowning across the UK and Ireland each year. Water safety education is vital and, in some instances, could be a child’s only opportunity to learn about the water.

Get involved and give our children the skills to enjoy a lifetime of fun in the water.

Loughborough Sport Swim School are urging parents to make sure their children know how to stay safe and enjoy the water this summer.  Start the conversation about water safety with our Water Safety Code animation.
