BSc Criminology and Sociology
Why did you choose Loughborough University?
I decided to go to Loughborough originally due to the high reputation it holds. However, when I came to visit Loughborough, I realised it was so much more! I loved the campus and the sense of the saying ‘lboro bubble’.
What is the best thing about your course?
- The best thing about my course is that it is a joint honours, therefore it is the best of both in my eyes, I love how I get a balance of modules between criminology and sociology so there is a wide variety.
What do you think of the teaching quality and facilities?
Over the three years I have been a Loughborough student I have received great support from lectures and also during covid the online lectures where very well thought of. I like the lecture rooms and always enjoy grabbing a coffee in the breaks.
Tell us about a favourite project/module on your course?
My favourite module was called crime and social welfare, this was a first-year module that explored local charities and their purpose – we had a guest speaker every week and this led to me gaining a placement after securing an interview with one of the charities.
What kind of support have you had from your department and/or from the University?
I have received specific support from my personal tutor via email and in person when I was either finding a module difficult or struggling with coursework. This led me to feel more confident as a result.
Have you completed/will you complete a placement year whilst at University?
I have just completed a 12-month placement at Living Without Abuse, a local charity. In this placement I was an outreach worker supporting victims of domestic abuse.
What do you hope to do when you graduate, and how will your Loughborough degree support this?
When I graduate, I hope to secure a job at my placement company, this would allow me to use my degree further and support vulnerable individuals that need it.
How do you find the social atmosphere on campus?
The social atmosphere at uni has been brilliant, the union building is a great affordable night out with good music and town also has many clubs. I’m also part of the dance club and this has been really good to make friends.
What is your favourite thing about being a Loughborough University student?
I’m very proud to be a Loughborough student and doing well in A levels to get here. The university is a very great place to live and work.
How has Loughborough inspired you?
Loughborough has inspired me to be confident, do well and go for what you want. I have met some great friends and also great lecturers.
