International Relations, Politics and History achieves success in Research Excellence Framework 2021

International Relations, Politics and History have achieved excellent results in the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021 with 100% of our Politics and International Studies research impact assessed ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’

In the first return to C-19 Politics and International Studies, the School is delighted that the panel recognised the impactful nature of our work. Our Impact Case Studies were judged to be in the top quartile, reflecting our work on anarchism, political lobbying and contemporary defence policy.

Head of Division, Phil Parvin commented:

“The REF was a huge success for us, with the vast majority of our published research judged to be world leading or internationally excellent. It was especially gratifying that our research was judged to be so influential in shaping debates outside of academia. We want our research to make a difference. I’m so pleased that the hard work of all my colleagues working in the fields of Politics and International Relations has been recognised and that our work is helping to tackle some of the biggest challenges facing the world today.”
