Media Landscapes module

The module SSA306 Media Landscapes introduces first year Communication and Media Studies students to different media sectors, providing them with an overview of key developments in these sectors and what it means to work in them.

Every week leading and upcoming media practitioners are invited as guest speakers to the module. They share their work experiences with our students and reflect on changes in their work environment as well as challenges they have encountered in their careers.

Past speakers included practitioners working for ITV News Central, the National Video Game Arcade, BBC Radio Leicester as well as award-winning independent filmmakers, journalists working for national newspapers including Guardian, the Times and the Daily Express, and leading PR and branding agencies.

The talks provide students with insights into actual work practices in the media industries as well as interesting networking opportunities.
