Guidance for undergraduate offer holders affected by conflict in the Middle East

At Loughborough, we are aware that the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East have caused significant disruption and uncertainty for many applicants and their families.

If you hold an offer with us and are affected by events in the region, we want to reassure you that we are here to support you with any concerns you might have about the impact of this on meeting your offer conditions.

Exam cancellations

We understand that examinations have been cancelled in some countries, including:

  • International Baccalaureate (IB) exams in several countries, including Bahrain, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates
  • GCE and International A levels in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, and in some cases Lebanon
  • Indian Class XII exams in Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates

We are also closely monitoring the situation for other qualifications, such as Advanced Placement (AP) exams, where cancellations have not been officially announced.

If your exams have been cancelled and you expect to receive grades

The main awarding bodies have confirmed that alternative assessment arrangements will be in place, and in most cases, students will still receive final grades in the usual timeframe.

These grades may be based on completed assessments, predicted performance, previous exam results, or a portfolio of evidence. Your school, college, or awarding body will be best placed to explain how your individual grades will be assessed.

Loughborough will consider grades awarded through these alternative arrangements for the following qualifications:

  • International Baccalaureate
  • GCE and International A levels*
  • Indian Class XII

If your exams have been cancelled but you expect to receive final grades, your offer remains valid and your conditions will not change.

We hope that these alternative methods will mean you receive the grades you deserve despite any disruption you have experienced. While we expect awarding bodies will take disruption into account in their final award of the grades, we are also committed to reviewing the results carefully as part of our extenuating circumstances process (see below).

* Some UK awarding bodies are offering students the option to switch from a GCE A level to an equivalent International A level. Please be reassured that we treat GCE A levels and International A levels equally and therefore if you choose to switch, your offer will not change, and your grades will be considered in the same way as for all other applicants.

If your exams are still going ahead

We appreciate that even where exams are still taking place, your studies and preparation may have been significantly affected by events beyond your control.

If you sit examinations in the 2026 summer examination period in any of the following countries, your results will automatically be considered under our extenuating circumstances process:

  • Bahrain
  • Iran
  • Iraq
  • Israel
  • Jordan
  • Kuwait
  • Lebanon
  • Oman
  • Palestine
  • Qatar
  • Saudi Arabia
  • United Arab Emirates

If you have been affected by the conflict, regardless of where you currently live, you may also share your individual circumstances with us through our extenuating circumstances process. Under this process, we are committed to handling each application with care and fairness and while we will try to be as flexible as possible for those narrowly missing their conditions of offer, we cannot unfortunately guarantee flexibility in every case. Our priority will still be to ensure that all Loughborough students are suitably prepared for their studies.

If you will not receive final grades this summer

If your exams have been cancelled and you do not expect to receive final grades this summer, or you are likely to receive a letter of support or statement of recognition instead, please contact our Admissions Team as soon as you are able. Sharing details of your circumstances will allow us to review your situation individually and advise you on the options available. When contacting us, please include your UCAS Personal ID to help us support you as quickly and as effectively as possible.

If you have any questions

If you have any questions about the status of your application, please do not hesitate to contact the Loughborough University Admissions Team. We are here help guide you through this process the best way we can.
