I’ve really found my IT Management for Business (ITMB) degree useful and it helps me in my career now!
From the range of business and technical modules, it gave me a good foundation of knowledge to understand how businesses work and the technology they use too.
The most useful part of my degree was developing my transferable skills. I learned a lot from the various group coursework modules – how to work in a team and to tight deadlines but also modules that allowed us to create ideas to pitch to a panel encouraging us to think about what is involved in creating a business! These opportunities helped me develop presentation skills as well as strong communication and organisation skills!

Why did you choose IT Management for Business?
I enjoyed ICT at GCSE and Business Studies was my favourite subject at A Level so it was great to find a course that was the best of both of these!
Having a 50:50 split between IT and Business Management was ideal and the addition of an industrial placement year was great too as part of my degree!
I thought that the placement year would be a great opportunity to get experience in the working world and help me work out what I wanted to do for my career!
ITMB is a 50:50 split between Computer Science and Business modules. You get a range of topics to learn from and get a feel for what types of modules you like.
You also get some great opportunities within the course to develop confidence in your presentation skills, group work and communication which employers look for! It is a great mix of transferable skills and knowledge ranging from management to more technical types of learning.

It was the best experience I could’ve asked for!
ITMB falls under the Computer Science department and I couldn’t recommend it more. There was a huge amount of support from the lecturers and personal tutors in the department!
I always felt that I could ask for help from them and my course mates.
I think the best advice for studying at Loughborough is to make connections and friends with your course mates/anyone you’re with in lectures! It is scary at first but so helpful if you put yourself out there and introduce yourself to the people around you when you start the year.
Karamjot’s career
I am currently on the graduate scheme at IBM, my role is a Business Consultant!
We help clients which are different companies from a range of industries such as Automotive, Retail or Financial, with problems within their firms and find solutions such as types of technologies!
I got to this job through my placement year – I applied to companies in my second year and got offered a role at IBM! I really enjoyed it there during the year and applied back towards the end of my internship.
Karamjot's advice
Do a course that makes you interested and/or excited! If results don’t go your way, I know it will feel like the end of the world but it really isn’t!
I learned through my results and missing my grade by a mark that everything happens for a reason! I missed my first choice, didn’t want to do my insurance choice so I went through clearing and got an offer from Loughborough which was the best choice I could have made!
