Fire Alarm Panel Operating Instructions

This document provides operating instructions for performing the weekly fire alarm test and resetting after a fire alarm activation on the Protec 6500 fire panel.

Weekly Fire Alarm Test

For further information on the weekly fire alarm test, please refer to guidance note ‘Fire Alarm Weekly Test’ available on the Health and Safety service website. Ensure that Security are notified before the test begins and again once the test is complete.

1. Before the test begins

Before the test begins, the fire panel will be in normal mode:

The green power light is illuminated, and the Protec logo displayed on the panel display.

2. Unlock the Panel

Unlock the panel using key 830.

3. Isolate any Plant

Isolate any plant (e.g., boilers, hot water systems) linked to the fire alarm at the plant isolation switch (if applicable).

4. Activate an MCP

Activate a manual call point using a black testing key.

5. Fire Mode

The fire panel will now be in fire mode

6. Silence the Panel

Press ‘To Silence Touch Here & Log In.’ This will bring up a keypad on the display screen.

Press the bar at the bottom of the display panel.

7. Enter Code

Enter 2000 then press ‘Enter’.

The keypad will display on the screen.

8. Silence Alarm

Press and hold ‘Silence.’

The ‘Silence’ and ‘Reset’ buttons will display at the bottom of the screen.

9. Reset

Press and hold ‘Reset.’

The panel should return to normal mode:

Enable any plant that was isolated during the test at the plant isolation switch (if applicable.)

Lock the fire panel using key 830.

Re-setting After an Activation

Once an investigation has been undertaken and it has been confirmed there is no fire:

  • Unlock the fire panel using key 830.
  • Press ‘To Silence Touch Here & Log In.’
  • Enter 2000 then press ‘Enter’.
  • Press and hold ‘Silence.’
  • Press and hold ‘Reset.’

The panel should return to normal mode. Lock the panel using key 830.

Remember to reset any plant linked to the fire alarm as it may have tripped or isolated when the fire alarm activated.

If the alarm will not reset, investigate the area again. If the alarm is confirmed to be false, silence the alarm but do not reset it. Call Security and request that they contact the duty electrician.
