Returning to halls

I found settling into university super easy as I made friends will everyone I lived with, and really everyone throughout Telford hall!

Living in halls is such a unique experience that you really don’t want to miss out on. Having the opportunity to extend that time together by returning to halls was amazing.

Most of the people around me are from Telford, even still now as I’m in my fourth year! So I made a strong community of friends from my accommodation.

I was largely won over to join Loughborough University because of the campus lifestyle. The facilities and accommodation here really attracted me. Knowing I could live in halls on campus made it an easier decision, and halls all looked really nice on the website.

Being located next to the library was useful for my academics as working in halls sometimes you can be tempted to go hangout with your friends instead as I can get easily distracted. I felt like university life was made simple by always being on campus, making it easy to find my way around. The location is especially great for getting to your lectures.

Feeling secure in halls

When I first moved to university, I had a normal balance of being home sick and feeling at home.

One thing that made me feel a sense of community was my flat doing a big Christmas dinner in the common room. There was also a girls’ social within my hall which made me feel very comfortable and was a great way to meet girls from all years affiliated with the hall. My other personal highlights of hall events have to be move in day and fresher’s week, as well as having BBQs and sports on the Telford quad in summer.

Before moving in, I was a little bit concerned about safety of my items in shared living areas, or if my food would get stolen. But honestly, these worries became irrelevant quickly when I moved in as I trusted my flat mates. Everyone is really respectful of each other.

The warden team in halls helped us consistently. If you lose your room keys a lot (like me) they’re the people to call! Campus has always felt incredibly safe, and if you ever need help the hall teams will come to your aid.
