Finding first year hard as a neurodivergent student inspired me to run events on the hall committee for others like me.
I now feel 100% at home in my accommodation! As a Welfare & Diversity hall rep, I get to put on fun events and foster an inclusive environment in my hall. Being in a position that allows me to foster a supportive, inclusive, and enriching environment in the community that can feel like a second family for fellow students is a huge privilege.
Being able to make change in our hall and across campus has given me a purpose and it’s an experience that I will cherish and carry with me for years to come as it feels rewarding and fulfilling. I was part of the team that won Welfare & Diversity hall of the year for Claudia Parsons which was a huge personal achievement – going on stage and receiving our trophy at awards must be a core memory!
I think that the work that each hall rep does in their halls is so important. We work hard to ensure inclusivity and a provide shoulder to lean on for every resident student. The dedication shown by everyone honestly warms my heart, and I’m lucky to be a part of this team of hall reps and to be surrounded by these beautiful humans on a daily basis.
The subwardens and hall team are amazing - checking in, helping in crises, and being friendly to everyone.
They definitely contribute into the family feeling of the hall and the community spirit that we have. As for the cleaners, they are the most beautiful souls on earth. They really go above and beyond and I love my cleaner so much.
I think hall committees in our accommodation is a huge reason to join Loughborough, as a lot of this is unique to our university. You’re not going to find this environment anywhere else. That's why I think living in halls is the thing I will miss the most after graduation.
Deciding to be a part of the hall committee was the single best decision I have made in my time at university. My roles in the committee have given me the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally to the point where I barely recognise the shy person I was a year ago. It has given me the chance to make mistakes, learn from those mistakes and use that as an opportunity for growth. It's also given me the change to work with and learn from such incredible and inspirational people throughout the year, truly a priceless and unforgettable experience that I am more than grateful to have had.
Living on campus is convenient and lets me grab extra sleep before lectures.
My friends who live off campus always gather in my flat for the convenience, being at the centre of it all and close to the students union. It’s also easier to get involved in activities and take part in hall events such as winter/summer balls which are always a fun night, something I think you’ll miss out on if you live in town.
My favourite hall activity so far has to be hall day! Who doesn’t love free ice cream, music blasting and a slip-and-side while the sun is out? It is a perfect way to celebrate exams ending and a nice farewell to all our Claudia Parsons family before people go their separate ways and move out.
