International student-friendly landlords
We want international students to feel safe and supported, so the following landlords have committed to working towards being International Friendly.
Developed by the Student Accommodation Centre and International Student Experience, our International Friendly Landlords scheme is designed to make securing private accommodation in Loughborough easier for international students. By working with local landlords to understand and reduce common barriers, we’re creating clear standards that promote fair, supportive and welcoming practices. The scheme recognises providers who meet these expectations, helping students feel confident when choosing where to live off campus.
Landlords who sign up to this scheme are working towards making the renting process easier and more welcoming for international students. Please note, this scheme is not policed or enforced by the Student Accommodation Centre - it is a voluntary commitment from landlords.
They have agreed to work towards:
Advertising: Clear info and virtual viewings

Use simple, clear language.

Communicate across different platforms.

Offer virtual viewings with accurate photos and videos.

Explain kitchen/bathroom facilities and how many people share them.

Provide all-inclusive rent with a clear breakdown.

Respond promptly to enquiries, considering time zone differences.

Give clear guidance on the property’s location and distance to campus and transport links.
Contract stage: Flexible and easy-to-understand contracts

Share links for proof of student status and Right to Rent share codes.

Provide international bank details for payments.

Affordability checks without a UK bank account

Students without a UK guarantor (or accept paid guarantor services)

References from international referees

Send a digital copy of the contract in advance so students can review or translate it.

Consider secure storage for belongings ordered or delivered before the contract starts.
After arrival: Smooth check-in and welcome support
