School of Social Sciences and Humanities Success in Global QS ranking

The School of Social Sciences and Humanities has reinforced its global reputation for academic excellence with its performance in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024, announced today.

Subjects across the School secured notable positions, including:

  • Communication and Media remaining in the top 100
  • Sociology rising to the top 150
  • Geography and Environment retaining its position in the top 200.

The QS ranking is based on surveying academic staff that declare a speciality in the subject area, and employers who recruit graduates that specialise in the discipline. It also takes into account research output and impact, with both citations and paper output measured over a five-year period.

Responding to the School's achievements, Acting Dean Professor Elizabeth Peel said: "I am thrilled to see improvements in our subject areas across the School in the QS 2024 ranking. This is testament to the excellent research and innovation activities in Social Sciences and Humanities and our improving global profile.
