My first degree was in Human Geography at the University of Wales-Aberystwyth (now Aberystwyth University). At Aberystwyth I completed my MA in Space, Place and Politics and PhD on political and cultural geographies in and around NASA. In 2008 I moved to the Department of Civil and Building Engineering at Loughborough University, where I worked on several multidisciplinary research projects. All of these projects involved social studies of engineering organisations. I was appointed as a Lecturer in OB/HRM in 2012, then Senior Lecturer in OB/HRM in 2016.
Research expertise
My research focuses upon the development of critical social theories through the study of organisations and processes of organising.
I have developed organisational theory through engagement with varied work settings, including spaceflight, construction and architecture, the performing arts and emergency management.
- Philosophically, my work is strongly inspired by Bruno Latour, Michel Foucault, Judith Butler and Gilles Deleuze, along with New Materialist theorists, especially in geography.
- My empirically engaged theory building has informed numerous projects exploring diverse social challenges, including: social, and especially gendered, inequalities, climate change and resilience.
- Some of this research has been supported by major grants from the EPSRC and ESRC.
I am interested in developing collaborations with academics inside and outside of business schools who are also interested in developing and engaging critical social theories within studies of organisational life and processes of organising.
