Loughborough Business School launches new research and innovation themes

Dr Martin Sykora presents to the Loughborough Business School research themes launch audience.

On Wednesday 5 November, Loughborough Business School welcomed guests from across the University and academic community to the launch of six new research and innovation themes.

These six new research themes have been introduced following an extensive consultation process within the school. They bring together the diverse expertise of academics from across the Business School, with the aim of enhancing internal and external collaboration to address the significant challenges facing organisations and societies today.

Informed by the school’s ‘Progress with Purpose’ ethos, the new themes focus on pressing issues such as technological change, responsible management, sustainable development, productivity and climate change:

  • Corporate Governance and Responsible Business
  • Digital Futures and Responsible AI
  • Green and Just Transitions
  • Productivity and Innovation
  • Sustainable Development, Economic Growth and Finance
  • Wellbeing, Inclusion, and the Future of Work

The event also highlighted the work of the Centre for Information Management and the UK SCALE Centre, the newest member of the MIT Global SCALE Network. These centres embody the cross-disciplinary research approach to navigating the future of technology and business.

Professor Crispin Coombs, Associate Dean for Research and Innovation, said: "It was fantastic to be able to welcome such a diverse audience from across Loughborough's academic community to join us today for the launch of the new Loughborough Business School Research and Innovation Themes.

“This event marks the culmination of an extensive consultation process within our school, and the next step in our continuing efforts to build interdisciplinary, purpose-led research cooperation. There is a tremendous amount of enthusiasm here for driving forward our understanding of these critical topics, and I am excited to welcome new collaborative partners to work with us in the coming months."

“In an increasingly complex, uncertain world, it's essential we take a targeted, collaborative approach to research, that's why this reorientation of our themes is an essential part of our commitment to making Progress with Purpose, ensuring that our research is timely, relevant and highly impactful."
