Libby has just graduated with a first-class degree in Accounting and Financial Management. Her time at Loughborough has provided her with opportunities for development. She said:
“Funding a scholarship is more than a financial contribution; I see it as an investment into a student's future, providing them with opportunities that they may not usually get to experience, allowing us to gain our true potential. Students, like me, are given the opportunity to pursue our further education with focus and hope rather than any limitations. The scholarship opens doors and builds confidence through the support network and events that the university puts on. I am deeply grateful for the generosity of all donors for helping empower students like me and making education possible and accessible.”
The scholarship has enabled Libby to expand her Loughborough experience outside of the classroom. She has been an active part of the Loughborough community, contributing as a committee member for AU boxing. She completed a year in industry at New Balance and is now working towards accounting qualifications in her graduate role.
Jaivani studied Accounting and Financial Management alongside Libby. They have navigated their course and scholarship programme together. Jaivani added:
“Because of the generosity extended to me, I also plan to give back to future students at Loughborough. I know what it means to me to be a beneficiary of such support, so I want someone else to feel the same way.”
Jaivani has supported Loughborough Business School as a student ambassador, sharing his experiences with prospective students and their families. He has also launched his own business and helped lecturers with financial modelling workshops.
Amhra is a Sport Management graduate on a trajectory to compete at the Olympic Games in 2030.
Amhra joined Loughborough estranged from his parents, informally raised by his grandparents, and was struggling with his mental health. During his four years at Loughborough, Amhra has grown incredibly and has balanced competing in sport alongside his studies – supported by an Opportunity Scholarship. Amhra started as a sprinter and now also competes in Bobsleigh, with hopes of making the Team GB Olympic team in 2030. He said:
“I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who supports scholarships at Loughborough (in particular my donor). Your generosity has a much bigger impact than you may ever fully see.
“For students like me, this support is not just financial. It creates opportunities, reduces pressure and allows us to pursue things that may otherwise feel out of reach. In my case, it has helped me continue developing both academically and athletically, and it has played a real part in opportunities that have genuinely changed my life.
“Your support has helped me work towards ambitions that once felt very distant. It has given me the chance to make the most of my time at Loughborough, grow as a person and move closer to goals that I would not have imagined were possible a few years ago. I am incredibly grateful, and I hope you know how meaningful that support is.”
Psychology graduate Joy found the financial support helpful throughout her degree, particularly when finding accommodation off campus.
“The financial security has helped me in ways I can’t fully explain. Thank you for your generosity and for making opportunities like this possible. Your support has a real impact on students like me, allowing us to focus on our studies and work towards our goals. I’m truly grateful for your kindness and belief in my potential.”
Joy’s journey to Loughborough began long before she started her degree studies. She was involved in one of Loughborough’s outreach programmes – many of which are supported by the Loughborough Fund. The programmes allow students to experience university life, with many of the programmes targeted to those who may not be considering higher education.
When she began her studies at Loughborough, Joy became a student ambassador and was part of the basketball team. Now a Loughborough graduate, she has started her graduate job, working towards a career in business or human resources.
Zach, a first-class Robotics, Mechatronics and Control Engineering graduate has also been heavily engaged in student life during his time at the University. He joined the archery club, roller hockey society, engineers without borders, and took part in RAG activities such as LOST and Dash to Dubrovnik. He was also selected to represent the UK in Taiwan for a programme related to his degree.
Zach said:
“Supporting scholarships at Loughborough is a fantastic way to support a student during their studies. These scholarships can be crucial for students who need the financial support to succeed with their degree. A massive thanks to all the support that scholarships like these provide to students like me!”
Each year around 50 students receive scholarships of this kind thanks to generous donations from alumni and friends – with more than 400 students supported since the programme began in 2013. More than 40 final year students graduated this summer. Students receive £3,000 a year for three years of study. 94% of scholarship recipients in 2025/2026 were from households with an income of less than £10,000 per year.
It is thanks to the support that an Opportunity Scholarship provides that these students have been able to enjoy their time at university, develop skills not only through their degree, but outside of it. By relieving financial pressures, Opportunity Scholars can fully embrace student life, and leave Loughborough equipped for what comes next.
