Ravishankar is Professor of Globalisation and Emerging Markets and Head of the International Business, Strategy and Innovation (IBSI) Discipline Group in the School. He is an experienced leader and manager in business school environments. He has a consistent track record of successfully designing and implementing complex strategies, without compromising on detail. Over the years, Ravi has provided leadership to many of the School’s strategic initiatives and has been a key player in building internationally competitive and inclusive research teams, setting up research centres, staff mentoring, new programme development, international collaborations and student recruitment from emerging markets. Between 2010 and 2014, he was Research Group Co-ordinator for the IBSI Group and Admissions Tutor for the Loughborough MBA programme. Before moving to the UK, Ravi lived and worked in three countries – India, Singapore and Australia.

Ravi is an experienced field researcher and has studied and worked with a range of start-ups, multinational companies and public sector organisations globally. He mainly conducts interdisciplinary research on the digital economy of emerging markets, and their social and economic impacts. He has published over 30 refereed journal articles on globalisation and emerging markets, management of digital technologies, social innovations and global sourcing. He has completed a number of externally funded research and industry-commissioned projects. The Newton Fund, Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), Commonwealth Scholarship Commission and UK Trade and Industry have funded his most recent work. Ravi has extensive teaching experience and his teaching has been well-received by all student groups. He has taught research-led courses at undergraduate, postgraduate and MBA levels on the strategic management of multinational enterprises, strategies for emerging markets and technology management. He has also designed and delivered workshops on qualitative research methods for PhD students in several universities worldwide.

Ravi has been active in the Academy of Management (AOM) and Association of Information Systems (AIS) for many years. He has convened research symposia and organised professional development workshops at the annual meetings of the AOM. He has served as Track Chair, Associate Editor and Convener of panel sessions for major annual AIS conferences such as the International Conference on Information Systems, European Conference on Information Systems and Pacific Asia Conference on Information Systems. 

Ravi regularly contributes to international conferences and has published articles in peer-reviewed scholarly journals such as Information Systems Research, Journal of World Business, European Journal of Information Systems, Information Systems Journal, Journal of Strategic Information Systems, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, Journal of Information Technology, Omega and Journal of Vocational Behavior.
