  • Professor Crispin Coombs, Reader in Information Systems was appointed to serve on Sub-panel 17: Business and Management Studies in the assessment phase of the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021.
  • Chris Holland, Professor of Information Management and Director of Decision Sciences in the Business School, has been appointed to a new expert group, set up by the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA), to look at digital ethics in insurance.
  • Dr Patrick Stacey, co-author of the paper 'A Paradox of Progressive Saturation: The Changing Nature of Improvisation over Time in a Systems Development Project', published by JAIS (Journal of the Association for Information Systems) in 2017, received the Senior Scholar Best Information Systems Publication Award in recognition of the importance of the paper to the Information Systems community.
  • Crispin Coombs, Reader in Information Systems, was a Keynote Speaker on 'The Business Benefits of Artificial Intelligence & Robotics: Hype or Reality?' at EnANPAD 2018 (National Association of Postgraduation and Research in Administration Conference (October 3-6, 2018, Curitiba, Brazil). EnANPAD is the annual conference of ANPAD (National Association of Postgraduation and Research in Administration) and is the second largest scientific Business Administration event in the world, attracting over 1500 delegates.
  • Crispin Coombs was invited to be a keynote speaker at the 15th International Conference on Information Systems and Technology Management to present his research on the impacts of Intelligent Machines on Work and Employment. CONTECSI is the largest Information Systems Conference in Latin America since 2004. CONTECSI receives every year a total of 350 selected papers and more than 450 attendees from Brazil and abroad. In the past years it has received delegates from more than 20 countries.
  • Professor Chris Holland is co-leading one of three projects, Technology Driven Change and Next Generation Insurance Value Chains, which aims to identify and map the opportunities for AI-based innovation in the UK insurance industry. The £20million scheme will investigate how artificial intelligence and data science can transform UK services.
  • Dr Patrick Stacey, Senior Lecturer in Information Management and member of the Centre for Information Management, was selected for the Best Paper Award from the  Journal of the Association for Information Systems (JAIS) in 2018, one of the top eight journals in Information Systems.
  • Professor Peter Kawalek presented keynotes at Excellence in Policing in 2018 and 2019. The 2018 keynote focused on data and models, called 'Making Better Choices: The New Leadership Challenge'. At the same conference and in conjunction with PhD student Tony Dawson, he also presented a session paper on 'How to increase our capacity to make better choices: the demands on cognitive resources'. Peter Kawalek’s 2019 keynote was 'Do the Right Thing With Data'. Excellence in Policing is one of the largest policing conferences in the UK, organised by the College of Policing.

International activities

  • Uchitha Jayawickrama is Chairing the Organizing Committee for the 2021 International Conference on Decision Support System Technology. This is to be held at Loughborough in May 2021 with local chairs Peter Kawalek, Kayode Odusanya, and Konstantina Spanaki.
  • The Annual Workshop of the European Research Centre for Information Systems (ERCIS) was held at Loughborough in September 2019.
  • Peter Kawalek, Chris Holland and Crispin Coombs led the joining agreement for Loughborough University to become the UK representative in the European Research Centre for Information Systems (ERCIS) research network. ERCIS is the preeminent European research group headquartered in Münster, Germany and has institutional members across Europe, Australia and the US. ERCIS generally only allows one elite institution per country to join its network.
  • Crispin Coombs has established an international research collaboration with academic colleagues at University of Sao Paulo with Professor Renato Moraes, Department of Production Engineering, University of Sao Paulo. The University of Sao Paulo, is the leading research-intensive university in South America and ranked Best South American University in THE World University rankings 2018.
