Advanced Physics MSc (alumna)

I was raring to go to use the analytical skills I gained from this course. I have proved to myself that nothing is impossible if I set my mind to it and put in the work.

Why did you decide to study at postgraduate level?

After having obtained my undergraduate degree in Chemistry, I was pretty set on working and quickly found training as a teacher. Teaching students physics, I found that I had a growing interest in the subject and took a specialist training course to learn more about physics.

Feeling a sense of restlessness in my career, I took the plunge and decided to go back to university. Consequently, I researched local universities that offered the MSc without a subject-specific undergraduate degree and made the application to study at Loughborough.

How did you find the experience?

I decided to explore the option of studying a master’s in physics and I have achieved more than I ever could imagine and obtained a distinction in my master’s. As I sat in the lectures, I found the interest blossom and grow along with the challenge which I had been seeking in my previous job.

What do you think about the support available for postgraduate students?

The staff I met and spoke to on my course were friendly and answered my questions, assuring me of the support available to returning students who had non subject-specific backgrounds like myself.

I was lent books and was guided to resources that were useful to topics I found hard to comprehend. I found the support of my supervisor particularly indispensable when I was completing my project remotely with the guidance he offered on a weekly basis.

What did you go on to do after completing your degree?

I now work as a Modelling Analyst for ESC Catapult and have been able to put to use the modelling skills I learned over the process of studying my master’s.
