Dr Alex Doak is a researcher in the Mathematical Sciences Department. He finished his PhD at University College London with Professor Jean-Marc Vanden-Broeck. He then worked as a post-doc and an EPSRC National Fellow in Fluid Dynamics at the University of Bath. Dr Doak now works with Dr Ricardo Barros, exploring waves in stratified media.
Dr Doak's research interests are numerical methods for a variety of fluid dynamics related problems. He has done a lot of work on free-surface and interfacial flows: flows in which an interface separates two different fluids. These include surface water waves, internal waves, electrohydrodynamic and ferrofluids, bubbles, and jets. Furthermore, he has explored solutions to flows in continuously stratified media which is his current research goal. He has also helped out on projects related to optimisation and inverse problems.
