Student Team - Arts Events Assistant
Join the LU Arts Student Team for 2025/26 as an Arts Events Assistant and help deliver our wide-ranging programme of events and exhibitions.
We have a Student Team to help us deliver the LU Arts and Radar programme of arts events, exhibitions and activities each year. Student team members are all employed on a casual basis and roles include Arts Worker and Photographer as well as Arts Events Assistant. For 2025/26, we are recruiting for at least four Arts Events Assistants.
This is a fantastic opportunity to develop key skills and gain experience in events and working for an arts organisation.
You can find out more about the role below. If you have any questions about this role then please email LUArts@lboro.ac.uk.

What will I do?
You will support the delivery of LU Arts and Radar events and exhibitions programme. Events and exhibitions will usually take place on the Loughborough campus and may include arts and craft workshops, exhibitions, artist talks, live performance nights, guided walks and screenings.
Duties may include:
- Setting up and clearing away materials for an arts workshop or drop-in session. This could include collecting and returning materials to the LU Arts office in Martin Hall
- Front of House duties – putting up signage, welcoming attendees, checking tickets, selling tickets, showing people to their seats and so on
- Invigilating exhibitions in Martin Hall Gallery – opening and closing the gallery, being on duty and answering visitors’ questions
- Staffing an LU Arts stand at a Loughborough University event (e.g. Open Day, Student Activities Bazaar) and talking to visitors about LU Arts and what we offer
- Assisting with the installation of an exhibition – lifting, carrying, painting walls or other non-specialist tasks
- Leading a campus walk around our sculpture collection or Fruit Routes (training given)
- Sharing event feedback with LU Arts colleagues – reporting the number of attendees, customer feedback and any issues that arose at the event or suggestions for improvement
What skills and experience do I need?
You will need good communication and interpersonal skills as you will need to speak to a range of people at our events. This may include Loughborough University staff, workshop leaders, performers, artists, students and members of the local community. You will need an interest in the arts, and previous customer service experience is desirable.
Basic (paid) training will be given in health and safety. There may be the opportunity to undertake additional paid training: areas here may include delivering campus art tours or First Aid.
How much will I be paid?
This role is paid at Grade 2, Spinal Point 5, which is currently £14.12 per hour. Payments will be processed on Dashboard and are paid monthly, with a cut-off date around the fifth of each month for that month’s pay run. You will always be paid for a minimum of two hours even if the booking is shorter than that.
How many hours will I work?
We will expect you to be flexible in terms of working hours. This is a casual position and there are no guaranteed hours. We have at least four Events Assistants in our team, and we make sure we share out the work as fairly as possible, taking account of the specific interests of each individual.
We try and give at least two weeks’ notice of bookings but sometimes we may contact you with a last-minute request. We don’t expect you to be available for every booking so don’t worry if you can’t accept a booking request.
The timing of bookings will vary and will include daytime, evening and weekend work.
Who can apply?
Any current Loughborough University student including undergraduate and postgraduate students (taught and research students). As most of the events will take place on the Loughborough campus, your studies must be based here. You should not be on a placement or enterprise year during 2025/26.
It does not matter what subject you are studying. If you are a postgraduate student, then your studies should be expected to continue until at least Easter 2026.
Accessibility
We want this opportunity to be accessible to all students. We welcome applications in different formats e.g. audio, if this is more appropriate for you. If you would like to discuss any accessibility issues in advance of applying, or to discuss how the opportunity can be made inclusive for you, then please email LUArts@lboro.ac.uk or call 01509 222948.
