Two Loughborough alumni recently returned to campus to speak with students at events hosted by the Loughborough Finance and Investment Society (LFIS), the University’s largest student society with over 450 members.

Paul Brough (Computing 1998) opened the series with a guest talk focused on his career in Financial Services. He shared personal insights into roles new graduates might pursue and discussed current sector trends including regulation, operational resilience, and the impact of artificial intelligence. He said:

“A huge thanks to the Loughborough Finance and Investment Society for asking me to speak about Financial Services and share some of my own personal experiences working in the sector.

“I particularly enjoyed answering questions and covering topics that mattered to those in the room. As a former Loughborough student, I hope sharing personal insights, talking about roles that new graduates might find themselves doing and discussing current trends in the Financial Services sector is a useful and practical way for us to pass on knowledge.

“Well done to Victor, Ahmed and the committee for an excellent job in organising and facilitating the evening. I am proud to be an alumnus of Loughborough and loved being back at the Edward Herbert Building - thanks again to everyone who attended.”

With around 40 students in attendance, the session delivered a dynamic Q&A and received positive feedback.

A week later, Gagan Bhatnagar (Computer Science 1991) also visited campus to deliver guest talks for LFIS and another group of students as a Lunch with a Leader session.

Reflecting on the LFIS event, Gagan said:

“It was a genuine pleasure to meet with LFIS last Wednesday evening. We covered a wide range of topics and I found the group highly engaged, curious, bright and motivated. I would be delighted to do it again!

The Lunch with a Leader session gave Gagan the chance to connect with students in a more relaxed, small-group setting:

“I really enjoyed the 'Lunch with a Leader' session. Our talk covered a wide spectrum of subjects, from my career journey to the role of design in fintechs. A genuinely uplifting discussion with an inspiring group who were super-engaged, intelligent and dynamic. To my fellow mentors: do make the effort to join one of the sessions, it's well worth it!”

These events aimed to connect students with alumni in finance, offering mentorship and career insights. Thank you to the guest speakers for giving their time and expertise.
