Loughborough alumnus and former lecturer publishes novel and travel book

A screenshot of Mike's two books, A Life in Travel and Staying Down. The book A Life in Travel has an image of a lion eating a zebra amongst some green foliage. The book staying down has a photo of a card in between two rows of houses and the sky is grey and there is a dark tint to the image which makes it look old.

Dr Mike Stephens, a retired lecturer from the Department of Social Sciences, has discovered a new chapter in retirement, as a published author of both fiction and travel writing.

Dr Stephens taught social policy and criminology at the University from 1979 to 2016, teaching and supporting students for nearly 40 years. He has now published two books which may be of interest to his former students.

One of the books is A Life in Travel. At Loughborough, Dr Stephens covered his office walls with large photos of places he had visited, and students often asked him about them. This book explores the stories behind those photographs and adventures associated with them.

The second title Staying Down is heavily based on his experience of growing up in South Wales in the 1970s and talks about poverty, working class culture and social decay.

Both books are available as paperbacks and eBooks from Waterstones and Amazon.
