Falkner Eggington alumni celebrate 20 years of the ‘Old Guard’

Earlier this month, a group of about 100 alumni came together to celebrate the 20 year anniversary of “Falk Egg Old Guard” – alumni of the Falkner Eggington halls of residence.

A range of activities took place over a weekend, including dinner followed by a rugby game between current students and the alumni, and lastly a ‘Street Party’ in Falkner Eggington with a barbeque.

The purpose of the weekend is to bring alumni back on campus to reminisce their time at the University, bond with current students staying at Falkner Eggington, and help raise money for charity. This year, nearly £4,000 was raised for a Breast Cancer charity, and still counting.

Alumnus Alex Laybourne, who is involved in organising the Old Guard activities, said:

"The Falk Egg Old Guard event is consistent proof that students love the hall culture and make everlasting memories and friendships during their time together. In the FEOG case, these friendships then cross over between multiple years and decades through a common bond and care for each other with a purpose at the core (raising money for cancer research and other charities), driving it forward and allowing it to sustain and grow.

“For many, Falk Egg represents a huge part of their personal journey and the weekend remains ever popular, as can been seen by this year’s attendance and the wide range of graduates returning for a full weekend.”
