How Loughborough alumni found their Valentines

Chloe and husband smiling at each other on wedding day

Love blossoms at Loughborough, and this Valentine’s Day we heard about three couples and their stories. From meeting in fancy dress to getting engaged on a glacier, check out their love stories below.

Jonathon Lees (Management Sciences 2012) and Amy Chitticks (International Relations 2012) met at Loughborough in 2008 during Fresher’s Week in fancy dress at the popular student FND club night. They also both lived in William Morris Halls.

Jonathon said:

“After 4 years at Loughborough we then started our careers in London. We stayed together since then and got married in 2018.”

When Chloe King-Patel (Chemistry 2015) met Dannikumar Dilip Kumar Patel (Accounting and Financial Management 2014), it’s like it was meant to be! Initially, they didn’t realise they were staying in the same accommodation. Chloe lived on the bottom floor with a group of girls and on the first day they had gone to meet the guys who lived on the floor above them. However, Chloe had been out shopping with her parents when this had happened.

Chloe and Dannikumar met later during Fresher’s Week at Loughborough Students’ Union where he asked for her phone number. They both hit it off and discovered they were both staying at the University’s Harry French accommodation. The couple started dating and then nine years later, Dannikumar popped the question on a glacier in Iceland.

The couple continue their love story and Chloe added:

“We are planning on going on a 7-month sabbatical this year and visiting most of Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand… I will always be grateful for my time at Loughborough and of course, meeting my husband, Danny.”

After seeing our post on X, Dan Higgins (Industrial Design with Education 1995) felt compelled to share his story with us about how he met Helena Meadows (Industrial Design with Education 1995). They are both still together enjoying Valentine’s Day 33 years later.

Dan and Helena both graduated in 1995 and married in 1998. They are proud to be part of the Loughborough family and are still in touch with friends from their time at university.

Dan said: “Loughborough definitely shaped our lives.”
