The model made by Sara Osman ' Battle for home'

Fine Art alumna Sara Osman has been selected for the Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2024 by Liz Johnson Artur, Permindar Kaur and Amalia Pica.

She graduated in 2021 and has been pursuing her career in art, accomplishing many achievements since. She has been involved in several exhibitions, and received awards such as the Phaedra Makridou Scholarship, the Eaton Fund, and Edward Sharp Prize.

The Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2024 exhibition will reflect a diverse cross section of emerging artists’ concerns and interests. Sara said:

“My chosen installation ‘Battle for Home’ draws inspiration from historic, post-war, and abandoned cities in the Middle East, including Homs in Syria, Shibam in Yemen, and the Maraş in Northern Cyprus, exploring themes of grief, belonging, and home.”

She explains further: “This work serves as a testament to the enduring human spirit in the face of adversity, aiming to evoke empathy and provoke reflection on the profound impacts of war on communities.”

She added: “This is a really big milestone in my career as an emerging artist and I would love for this achievement to be celebrated, especially as it will inspire prospective students looking to study a Bachelor of Arts.”

Her aim is to encourage current and prospective students to follow their dreams.

Congratulations Sara on your selection!
