Design against Abuse: Tara Janes uses art to support domestic abuse survivors

Tara Janes art to support domestic abuse survivors

Alumna Tara Janes graduated with a MA in User Experience in Design in 2021. She was quickly offered a job at Publicis Sapient; and joined their Graduate Scheme. Her role involved designing websites and other digital experiences for household names like Marmite, Dove, Kent Reliance and Asda.

However, her passion for design took her a step further and she gathered a team to create a new website for a domestic abuse charity, utilising her Master’s topic (Design against Abuse), into creating that website.

The website includes a variety of information for survivors of abuse and a donations portal so the charity can gain more support.

Tara’s enthusiasm for user experience, interaction and service design drove her to pursue her dream and she was awarded a core value award in Publicis Sapient for the work done for the charity. She also created a company-wide presentation on domestic abuse awareness and presenting the work done for the website at the company's Summit and at a Google event for International Women’s Day. Tara is passionate about empowering survivors of abuse and highlighting help available as well as promoting awareness of the signs of abuse.

Well done, Tara. Congratulations on your supportive and inspiring work.
