Sophie Clarke began her business, Sophie Clarke Designs, after having to leave her graduate job and move home as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

The alumna graduated in 2019 with a degree in Textiles, Innovation and Design. Throughout her degree she specialised in woven textiles where she learned about designing fabrics, the art of dyeing yarn, and the very start of the weaving process of dressing the loom.

Sophie Clarke Designs is based in Busy St Edmunds, Suffolk in her home studio. It is there where her fabrics are designed and handwoven to order with her 16 shaft Ashford table loom. Sophie’s woven interior products come in an array of colours that are inspired by unexpected colour combinations. The alumna’s creative process is often inspired by the materials and fabrics she is working with when designing the loom

Sophie’s designs were recognised in the National Young Traders final in 2021 where she was named the Arts & Crafts UK Trader of the Year. The young traders are judged on various criteria including their customer service skills, products, professionalism, and their interaction with other market traders.

Her woven fabrics were featured in a pop-up shop in John Lewis Cambridge, and she has also appeared in three issues of Tatler magazine's 'Tatler curates' section in Summer of 2022.
