David Luck graduated with a MEng in Chemical Engineering in 2017 and has been merging his interest in comedy into his daily life since.

David comes from Northamptonshire and has always been a big fan of comedy. In his first and second year at Loughborough, he began writing material with the intention of pursuing stand-up comedy.David’s first gigs were for Funhouse Comedy and The Swan in the Rushes before David completed his final year. The performance ignited David’s passion and he has performed in over 250 comedy gigs since.

His comedic pursuits have been successful, and David regularly travels across the country to make people laugh. He has performed in compilation shows at Edinburgh Fringes and alongside big names in the comedy scene such as Gary Delaney and Nathan Caton, known for Live at the Apollo and Mock the Week. He has been recognised by a number of different bodies including being named the Yellow Comedy New Comedian of the Year 2018. He also placed third at the Nottingham Comedy Festival New Act of the Year in 2018 and was a semi-finalist at Manford’s New Act of the Year in 2019.

Although comedy has mostly been David’s hobby alongside his fulltime job, the alumnus has started securing paid comedy gigs in the recent years. He has done two paid headline slots and many middle slots on comedy shows.

David shared with us details of his stand-up comedy journey so far. He said:

In recent months, I was also given my first paid middle spot by Mike at Funhouse Comedy in Ashby-de-la-Zouch who gave me my first ever 5-minute gig in Loughborough all those years ago! I have also appeared on BBC Radio Northampton to discuss comedy.

“In life, I thrive on entertainment and making people laugh and smile. Thus, the arts and entertainment (comedy, radio, television, acting) are my dream career areas. When/if I make any progress in the areas I am less experienced in will be a matter of time, but for now, I am very happy indeed with how my comedy journey has been progressing and the successes I've had so far. It's such a huge joy to have a successful gig and for performers and audience members to give such positive feedback afterwards.

“It all started during my time at Loughborough and if all goes well, it will be onwards and upwards from here!”
