Exploiting cross-cutting sports science, engineering and AI, INCUS has produced the first wearable device and supporting data platform that delivers validated analytics for swimming, running and cycling in a way that’s simple for anyone to understand.
Founded in 2017 on LUSEP, Loughborough University Science and Enterprise Park, by alumnus Chris Ruddock (Product Design Engineering 2016), INCUS was recognised alongside many well-known brands including Octopus Energy, SunLife, Natwest and Deliveroo.
Commenting on the win, Chris said “The INCUS team are absolutely delighted to be recognised at the British Data Awards.”
He continued: “We’ve delivered new innovations in swimming mechanics and efficiency, so everyday swimmers and coaches now have simple, clear information at their fingertips that was previous impossible to measure accurately, such as body position, angles and stroke economy.
As wearable sport and fitness technology becomes increasingly sophisticated, we continue to push boundaries in data analytics and AI to predict running injuries before you feel them, through the way you move.”
Jason Johnson, Co-Founder of Predatech and British Data Awards judge said: “Congratulations to all of our 2022 Winners. With 158 entries received this year, being named a Finalist let alone a Winner really is a great achievement. I hope that all the people and organisations taking part this year feel immensely proud to be recognised for their data success stories on a national stage.”
INCUS is the third University-founded company to win a coveted British Data Award. At last year’s inaugural event Previsico, an academic spinout launched in 2019, from world-leading geography research, won Innovation of the Year and Alcuris, founded in 2017 by Product Design Engineering graduate Alex Nash, won Healthcare Organisation of the Year.
