Graduation ceremonies for 2020 and 2021 graduates took place on the Loughborough campus from 19-30 July. More than 40 ceremonies were held across the two weeks, which welcomed thousands of graduates and guests to celebrate this special occasion.

Held in line with covid guidelines and hosted in an open-sided marquee, the ceremonies gave graduates the chance to celebrate their achievements in person, while maintaining social distancing.

As part of the celebrations, alumni and friends were invited to share messages. More than 150 messages were submitted and shared with graduates who were offered advice, career tips, and congratulations from alumni, some of whom graduated as long as 69 years ago.

Advice included “Dream BIG and ALWAYS follow your dream! It is your life - go live it!” from Clive Summerfield (1978).

Euripides Hatjiparaskevas (1994) said: “I still have wonderful memories from my university experience! I wish that all this knowledge you gain from there will be used for the good of you and for the whole world as well!”.

2020 graduate Eugenie Tang took the opportunity to share a message with her parents: “Thank you so much for giving me all the best things you could give. I couldn’t have fulfilled my dream without you and I will forever be grateful for the sacrifices you make for us.”

During the ceremonies, Professor Ivan Browne, Mike Sandys, and Caroline Trevithick (pictured) were awarded honorary degrees from the University for their contributions throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
