Cheesy chips, countryside, and campus – here's what alumni miss about the UK

Over 160 alumni living outside of the UK entered our prize draw by sharing things they miss from their time at university.

Alumni were encouraged to share on social media what they miss about the UK and were entered into a prize draw to win a hamper and some Loughborough goodies.

Many alumni missed food items including prize draw winner Jag Gaberria from the USA. Jag shared that he missed:

Burgers and toasted cheese sandwiches from Purple Onion.

A plate of pie and mash with vegetables and gravy

Popular food items missed by alumni included fish and chips, pork pie, and chocolate. Rachit Sharma from India commented that she missed:

Cheesy chips after a night out!

Alumnus Alan Smith who lives in Germany said he missed several foods:

Steak and kidney pie, Yorkshire pudding, Cornish pasties, fish and chips, and of course the traditional English breakfast. Thinking of Leicestershire, I yearn for Melton Mowbray pork pie and Stilton cheese.

Alumni commented about missing the University campus, the weather, and the countryside.

Jessica Teh, an alumna in Singapore, missed:

The trees which turned red in autumn! and the cold.

Red lead tree in a row of houses

The weather in the UK, cleanliness, and greenery.

Many alumni shared they missed friends, family and course mates, Amewushika Tamakloe from Ghana said:

I miss the long walks around campus and the people! Everyone I met was just so cheerful!.

Snow outside Hazlerigg and Rutland buildings.
