Tony Lockett
4 June 1936 - 8 December 2025
Physical Education with Geography DLC, 1959
During his long career in teaching and lecturing, which culminated in him being appointed Head of Leisure Studies at Llandrillo College, Rhos on Sea, North Wales, Tony was an active and prestigious member of the Royal Yachting Association and a well-respected Race Officer.
In 1987 he wrote and produced the RYA Race Management Training Scheme, which was subsequently introduced nationally.
In 1991 - 2002 he served on and was Chaiman of the RYA Race Management Committee and the following two years Chairman of the ISAF Race Management Committee.
He travelled the world as a Chief Race Officer, presiding over races between many different classes of boats. Eventually culminating in him being the Assistant R.O. at the Sydney Olympics and in 2004 the Chief Race Officer at the Athens Olympics.
In later years he continued his input into sailing by heading seminars for the RYA Race Officer training schemes, both home and abroad.
For the last 10 years, he was President of Llandudno Sailing Club, a club very close to his heart, where he had sailed for many years and had twice been their Commodore.
He will be sorely missed.
